Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about, usually one that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.
Peter Grant “Book 8”
Ben Aaronovitch’s next book in his Peter Grant series isn’t due until August this year, but I’ve been eager for it since finishing LIES SLEEPING. For those that haven’t read it, the series is set in present day London and follows the escapades of Black copper Peter Grant as he discovers magic and a whole side to the City he’s not seen before.
Told in first person, the books are brimming with pop culture and a slightly snide sense of humour that makes them fun and engaging. The series does get a little darker as it goes on, and it can be quite grisly at times, but as Peter’s mentor Thomas Nightingale says
Here’s a comforting thought for you, Peter: however long you may live, the world will never lose its ability to surprise you with its beauty.
So, yeah; I highly recommend this series. To be precise, I recommend the audio books, because Kobna Holdbrook-Smith does an excellent job at voicing Peter (and absolutely needs to play him should the books be made into a TV series.)
